Newsletter – January 2010

There is a shortcoming of committee members and the new members of the committee have asked if anyone from any of the member clubs would be willing to join the committee. If so please let your GDPU Delegates know (Tom Smart or Gardner Little).

There was also concerns raised that the forthcoming Judges workshop was going to be cancelled as there has been no entries for this. The member clubs asked for it not to be cancelled as one club had some member who were willing to attend. Some changes were proposed to the Image League Judge Selection rules, these were approved and will be amended accordingly. Feedback on the first digital slide league has been very positive.

The general message from the GDPU committee was that there is a lack of people to volunteer for events and it seems to be the same few members who time and again seem to keep things going. The GDPU are looking for more support from member clubs – more information will be published on this as and when events are being run.

Competition Rules

The GDPU AGM will take place on Tuesday 14 April in the East Kilbride Arts Centre, starting at 7.30 pm prompt. Club’s are reminded that there will be a requirement for new committee members this year. A proposal for competition rule change has been made by Beith CC and this will be voted on at the AGM. Proposal will be submitted to club secretaries prior to the AGM.

• The AGM will be held on Tuesday 14th April 2009 at 7.30pm in East Kilbride Arts Centre.
• Chairman made a plea to clubs to encourage members to consider joining thee GDPU committee. Over recent years the committee numbers have been dwindling and this is now starting to impact planned projects due to the increased demand on the current committee. If anyone is interested please make it known to ACC committee or delegates.
• Not enough clubs are entering images into the GDPU competitions, salons, portfolios. Clubs have been asked to try and make an effort in entering prints / images to the various events available to club members.
• GDPU Image League Final – will be held on Thursday 9th April 2009 at 7.30pm in East Kilbride Arts Centre. At this time the judge is unknown. Entry will cost £2.00 per person. The standard in the final is very high indeed.
• Member clubs have been asked to look at the new website and feedback any issues – particularly around their own club page. Clubs have also been asked to provide an image for the club page and to provide feedback or comments (good or bad) – with a view to allow the web site to be improved even more.
• GDPU Weekends
  • Next weekend is planned for Uig Youth Hostel in Skye, however we are looking to move the event to Broadford as it is more central on Skye. The places are being taken up quickly so booking need to be made ASAP. The cost of this weekend will be £40.00. More information available as and when available.
  • A longer trip has been planned for September to Islay. Further details can be found on the GDPU Web Site.
• Workshop Day
  • Need applications ASAP.
  • The day will be a hands on day so members are asked to bring cameras.
  • A couple of the lectures will be “out and about” so please prepare for the weather also.
  • Cost is £40.00 for GDPU members, £45.00 for non members.

• The management committee have a new constitution to agree and approve for the centre.
• Still discussing lets – but mainly commercial lets and the benefits we should give – which should be none for profit making groups. (i.e. they pay the full let).
• They were asking how the club was doing, I informed them all was well and members had joined the Craig Inn.
• They were asking what we do as they have been running a photography course (digital photogrpahy on the PC’s) and were asking if they could have something to promote the club – I suggested flyers for the notice board and club cards.
• The management committee are looking to open the centre on the occasional weekend and asked if we could put something on – I advised we could do something perhaps once a month on a weekend – even if it was just a portrait shoot.
• I asked if it would be possible for us to take in a bigger steel cabinet – there was no issues and they advised for us just to do it – can arrange this with Linda.

As the local Camera Club are trying to capture and scan as many past and historic images as possible getting them into a format that can be enjoyed for many years to come by old and young members of the community.

If you have any old images – could be school photos or images of the old foundry, mine works etc, and would be willing to allow Armadale Camera Club to scan and convert to a digital format to capture and display, please drop us a mail using the contact form. We would like to take the prints and scan them, convert them and display them on this site. The original prints shall be returned in the same condition.

We would like to create a gallery that members of the community could use and appreciate for many years to come – preserving the photographs from days past in digital format.

The issue has now been resolved. If you have tried to contact the club over the last couple of days, please feel free to submit your enquiry again so we can respond to you.

Once this is done, mail me the images and I’ll upload to the relevant directory – this is not something you can configure from the admin page.

Once I add the images, each time a page changes the script will cycle through each image – giving us a nice dynamic site.
